Why do ppl always affiliate african americans with hip-hop?
Question:
Answers:
Because those are the same people who affiliate Asians with Kung Fu
I affiliate white people with hip-hop because they tend to ruin it by memorizing it and thinking they are "gangsta"
I find that interesting because the majority of listeners of hiphop (over 70%) are white. I believe that the physical image of hiphop (i.e through music videos) suggest that African Americans are more involved in the musical genre than the true story...thanks for pointing it out.
majority of hip hop is geared toward blacks.
Also most stereotypes have /some/ truth in them.
they dont know any better
Because it was they who were the first to make that particular genre what it is. What's wrong with that? It's no more of a stereotype than Europeans and what is considered "classical music" today. Music typically has roots in culture.
Blacks originated it, so that's probably why.
Mostly white middle class teenagers listen to it now - makes them think they're tough and street-wise or something.
From what I've heard, a lot of blacks don't even like that kind of music - the original music has been wrecked by commericalism, just like all commerical music
This is my answer and as an African-American I can relate to this. It is television. So many people watch too much tv and in particular MTV. When the only image of a certain ethnic group comes from TV or and other portion of the media, that image is cemented into the mind and that is what many people will associate a certain ethnic group with.
I don't. I may associate, but never affiliate.
Because mainstream media, the perennial purveyors of hatred portray black people in the most negative manner: hip-hop, rap, drugs, pants falling down with the rag around the head. This portrayal perpetuates negative stereotypes of blacks to some whites. To compound the problem, some young blacks imitate this image and behavior.
Arabs and Muslims are getting the same treatment. All the media shows is terrorists, and violent, anti-American diatribe. Uneducated Americans equate this with all Arabs or Muslims.
Ummm... maybe because hip hop originated with black people. Sugarhill Gang... Curtis Blow... etc. And hip hop to this day is mostly black. I agree with the phantom's answer!
i think it is the image that is sold to people. it is something that you in all forms of media.. and they have african americans selling the culture as the culture. I hope people are smarter than the media and can realize that there is more to people than what is sold... and that goes for all races
