I copy and pasted the code in (it says to any website) and I see nothing, a google adsense link, or just html. Did I do something wrong or is it just like this?

You should copy the code within the body section. Assuming that you did that right, make sure that your website software/utility supports java. Check out the code on my sites listed below:

It depends where you put it. As long as you've been approved, it should show up, but perhaps you didn't copy the whole code. Broken code will show up as simply nothing.
I presume you left the <script part.just a guess..
