I turn on the TV on Saturday morning or early afternoon and see those stupid infomercials on 3 different channels at the same time, as I'm seeing right now at 1:00pm one being our local ABC affiliate and another being the local CBS affiliate. Why can't they put real programs on insead of that garbage?
Answers:
They could put better stuff on, but no one's watching (it's the worst viewership day of the week), so they can't make any money selling commercial time. Therfore, the most cost effective way to use up airtime is to show infomercials.
Unlike regular prgrams, networks don't buy informercials. Instead, the informercial company actually pays the network to show it. Hence the name: "Informational commercial".
I think sometimes people forget that ultimately, tv doesn't exist to entertain us; it exists so that people can make money.
