Google Adsense Placement?

Question:
I hear Google place higher paying ads at the top of the page and lower paying at the bottom. Theoretically, what if all the ads are above the fold?

Answers:
There's been talk that the positioning depends on where they are in the HTML. So you may have 3 ad formats above the fold, but if the banner comes first in the coding, followed by your rectangle then a skyscraper, it may be possible given the competitive bidding aspect of Adwords that the banner will show the higher paying ads.

However, it is a theory that is hard to prove as it depends on so many factors -- e.g. what if the rectangle in the middle position gets more clicks than your banner which is at the top of the page.

A better approach would be to study Google's heatmap and see the ad positions and formats most likely to attract clicks -- and earn money for you. https://www.google.com/support/adsense/b...
